Ducks
Our oldest ducks were rescued from an animal housing project in Salt Lake City. Their names are Quackers and Crackers, and they are best friends and sisters. Their new friend is Cheese, who was recently rescued from the same location. They are Muscovy ducks, which means, among other things, they are considered noiseless because they don't quack as loudly as other ducks. The Muscovies like to sit on their eggs and wander through their home looking for bugs and other treats. They are excellent mothers and don't require a pond, but they still love to swim.
Our newer duck friends are Silver Appleyards. Like other ducks (except Muscovies) Appleyards must have a pond and once full-grown, they are noisy! This breed is known for its egg laying and size, along with Mallard-like coloring in the males while the females have light coloring with a flash of deep blue in a stripe on the wings.
Here are some of our flock.
